What We've been up to

We've finally made a bit of time to write some news on the site.

Facebook gets most of the up-to-date information - its just too easy with getting photos online and instant updates so apologies to the rest of you without the 'Book.

Andrea Wilson-Dennien has joined our team and is flying solo at the drafts in the South and South East zone, and is doing an absolutely fantastic job.

Things are going great guns thanks to the ACA, committees and competitors alike for their fantastic support to date.

Below is the stats we've clocked up in just over 3 months (kinda makes our jaw drop a bit as well):

From 20th May - 2nd September:
- 3,069 members
- 9,524 horses
- 16,150 nominations
- 16,305 klms

Anyways, we've been round the state to date and below is a map of where we've been and where we'll be going.

Clarke Creek open, closed and finished with Campdraft Central for the second time.  We had about 3 phone calls from the secretary and not one email or phone call from a competitor about using the system.  Clarke Creek was also the first draft we charged to use the system, apart from Paradise.

As we get around more, we're seeing that people are responding extremely positively to the convenience and use of Campdraft Central.  This is mainly due to the tremendous amount of feedback and positive criticism that's shaping the system into the best product it can be.  We always love hearing from you.

We're about making technology to suit humans - not the other way around.

Thanks again and see you on the road.

Paradise and Winton

There's only one word for Paradise - phenomenal.  Enough said we think

Winton was the most fun we've ever had at a Campdraft.  Campdrafting was born, grown, nutured and developed in the country and the most important thing that the Winton Committee know through and through, we're all there to have fun first and foremost.

The Winton committee made a fortune for raising money for breast cancer over the weekend. Well done Patrice Elliott and crew  http://www.breastcanceraustralia.org/

Cattle, cattle, cattle - without cattle, there wouldn't be campdrafting and we wouldn't have a business, let alone a truly national sport where we want our kids to grow up in.

Thanks to all cattle donors who have, and will do, spend the time, money, effort and energy in supplying cattle for campdrafts across Australia.  We appreciate you always.

Hendra Virus - Recommendations for Competitors

Thanks to Sean Dillon, ACA President, for helping us collating this information

Due to the public concern about the recent outbreaks of Hendra virus, we're offering the following recommendations to competitors:

  • Practice good biosecurity, good hygiene and decontamination of equipment.
  • Do not share equipment, including food & water containers between horses. Avoid use of communal water troughs.
  • If using a communal hose, avoid touching buckets when filling with water to avoid spreading disease from previous bucket.
  • Do not take sick/unwell horses to an event, horse owners should not knowingly take sick horses to events.
  • Competitors must notify an event official if they suspect a horse is sick.
  • Sick horses must be promptly isolated and seek veterinary advice.
  • Any equipment in contact with the sick horse should also be isolated.
  • Clean your equipment thoroughly before leaving home to attend Paradise.
  • Shampoo is an excellent product for minimising disease carrying possibilities as it changes the PH level of your horses skin, thereby providing a hostile environment for any infectious diseases.

Calliope Campdraft

  • Posted: 11th July 2011

The Calliope Campdraft held over the weekend of the 9th / 10th of July was nothing short of amazing.  After 2 false starts, due to rain, it also ended up on one of the coldest weekends of the year

The committee, grounds (a portable setup on the Calliope racetrack), camping and bar area were brilliant.

All this was a very distant second to the arena - absolutely impeccable.  In the still, frosting mornings, it looked like the horses were running on water.  And not a single fall for the whole weekend, with full credit going to the arena preparation.

A great campdraft all depends on the committee, and with Chris, Terry, Doc, Evette and the rest of the committee at the riens, it was a well organised, relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Thanks to the Calliope Committee and the competitors who attended for their wonderful support through the trial of Campdraft Central.
