The huge influx of members to the ACA in recent years has placed a great amount of pressure on many committee’s and the need to apply limitations or adopt different forms of selection to allow people to get into a draft.
Many committee’s are using the ‘first in first served’ form of nominating, whether it be by post, phone or via Campdraft Central.
This form of nominating worked very well in the past but today is leaving many people disgruntled and is very quickly becoming the main topic of conservation at many campdrafts.
At Campdraft Central, we've always known that the current form of nominating was not a solution; merely a "different" and more efficient way to manage the same problem:
Too many competitors, not enough nominations
This is a new system which has been devised which could benefit committee’s who are getting inundated with Campdraft nominations.
No new rules have been created to adopt this way of nominating. All the current rules of the ACA have been applied to this system and hopefully it should allow more competitors to get into a Campdraft.
The major difference is that it will allow you preference your horse within classes.
At its simplest, Novice & Open horses will get prefence in their respective classes before other horses.
This is in no way a ‘reinvention of the wheel’ but simply another tool available to committee’s to ease the burden of the nomination pressure.
Nominating by preference all depends on the Status of the Horse (Maiden, Novice, Open)
Currently in Campdraft Central, the status of your horse has no impact on nominating and cannot easily be changed.
The first thing competitors will need to do is state what status their horse is.
The ACA has a zero policy on people nominating horses as incorrect status and members will be banned who are proved to do so
The new version for nominating will allow you to easily change the status.
We'll be using colours for easy reference to the status of your horse:
To change the status of your horse, you'll be able to simply click the horse's name until it changes to the correct colour
Here's how Trader's horses will look:
Adding your noms with Campdraft Central's new version has never been easier.
With the preferencing system, you'll add your horses to events - or events to horses - as normal.
Preferencing will only affect the Maiden, Novice, Open & Restricted Open events
The difference will be that any first round run restrictions won't be enforced at this stage.
However, after preferences, they may apply restrictions if you're over the threshold the committee sets
So, Trader will nominate his 5 horses like this:
(PINK: Maiden | YELLOW: Novice | GREEN: Open)
Now, Trader's noms look like this before preferencing:
What Trader will then decide is the preferencial order of horses he wants to run first to last. This will sorted, for the first time, by the order they were nominated
Trader could decide to re-order his noms like below (notice the maiden and novice horses have changed order) - Note: this preference order has nothing to do with the Run Order in the draw
You won't be able to preference a horse with a lower status above that of a horse in the respective event. ie, a Maiden horse can't be given preference over a Novice horse in the Novice Event
So now Trader has his preferences in - in which he can make any changes until the noms close - the only thing left is to say how he want's to pay (Direct Deposit or Cheque).
His accepted nominations will be automatically invoiced then after the committee makes the decision.
We here at Campdraft Central have been approached by committees to explore this alternative.
What the committee will be able to see after the nominations come in is the following example:
(PINK: Maiden | YELLOW: Novice | GREEN: Open)
What this table shows is the number of total noms and in the colours, how many horses, by status, make up those numbers
So, what we can work out is all how the preferences make up these totals below
The major advantage to the Preferencing system is that committees have all the information first before restricting competitors.
This means if they have more nominations in the Novice than the maiden, they can take less in one to accommodate more in the other
The new preferencing system will be available from the 28th May
