Preferencing: The Fairer Way To Nominate for Campdrafts

Welcome to the help and information section for Campdraft Central's new Preferencing nomination system.

The idea with Preferencing is to stop the "Bull Rush" for entering nominations into campdrafts.  

The committees take everyone's nominations first, than decide how to fit them all in based on a competitor's preference for their horses.

We were approached over a year ago by the Mt Coolon committee and a couple of other experienced campdrafters about possibly exploring this method.

The people we've been working with, including ACA councillors, are all on campdraft committees where every year they struggle to accommodate all competitors who want to come to their drafts.

Its a major difference to nominating and there will be a lot of questions to be answered but hopefully the information you can find in this section will help.

Things to know about the Preferencing system:

  • Preferencing offers everyone who wants to go to a campdraft a run
  • Committee's will control what preferences they take - its their draft and Campdraft Central is only a tool
  • Preferencing will only affect the Maiden, Novice, Open & Restricted Open events
  • Competitors can nominate their horses without restriction first, by putting their noms into each event
  • Competitors decide the order (preference) in which each horse in each event will have over the other, if they were to miss out
  • Committees can still elect to limit runs after preferences are given out
  • Horses running in their respective classes will get first preference before horses of a lesser class

  • MT COOLON WILL NOT BE USING THIS METHOD THIS YEAR

  • Whilst some people may lose a run or two here or there, the major benefit is that everybody gets a chance to start
  • To a certain limit, this Preferencing method will make Wait Lists not as necessary as they have been in recent years

 

FEEDBACK FROM COMPETITORS

There's been a lot of feedback about Campdraft Central in regards to the "bull rush" for trying to nominate on any given night.  

As the committee decides how many runs to take, its something that we can't control in deciding who gets in and who misses out.  At the end of the day, someone will miss out using the "bull rush" method.

We appreciate your support in this trial and hope that this may be the start a new method for people to get into campdrafts more easily.  It will take some refining but we need to give it a try
